As a retired police officer and Colonel in the National Guard I oppose these laws as well as any laws restricting the 2nd amendment and encourage you to vote likewise. These proposed bill have nothing to do with preventing gun violence. A 14 day waiting period will do nothing to enhance the FBI background checks. What will enhance it is following up and filing charges on prohibited people who attempt to buy. Additionally criminals do not follow laws. On the rare occasion where prohibited persons purchase firearms they would have someone else make the purchase. Again according to a 20 year study conducted by the FBI showed most criminals do not purchase firearms from gun shows retail outlets. But through theft or purchasing off the street from other criminals. Do your homework, vote with the facts – not hysteria.

Items subject to the NFA are already heavily regulated. Less than 10 incidents of legally obtained NFA items have been involved in crimes since being passed in the 1930’s. Purchasers are required to pass a thorough background check conducted by the FBI. These can take up to 6 months to complete. Things like sound suppressors – there is no such thing as a silencer, reduce the sound of firearm report to a comfortable 80db. This goes a long way to protect hearing of the shooter. We don’t need California gun laws in New Mexico.

The NM majority continues to want to make criminals out of everyday firearm owners. The representatives who are furthering these bills are breaking their oath to defend the NM constitution. These members of the Roundhouse claim to care about the safety of the citizenry yet refuse to take meaningful action on fentanyl, human trafficking via an open border, and the recidivism of the NM courts.

I am firmly against all of these bills

Making felons out of law-abiding citizens is not what we voted for! You are violating the United States Constitution and its 2nd amendment!


The Supreme Court of the United States has already ruled that what you are attempting to accomplish by passing these bills. It has already proven to be unconstitutional with their ruling in Heller, Bruen, and Caetano. Heller in particular dealt with the History of our 2A, and you folks are trying to eliminate our rights with these bills.


By passing these laws, you will be wasting taxpayer money trying to defend the undefendable! You will also make felons out of law-abiding citizens overnight with the swipe of a pen. Please vote these house bills down, upholding your oath to protect the constitutional rights of citizens here in NM.


Please understand that the criminal will not follow your laws thus leaving the average citizen defenseless.

Outnumbered with the restrictions on the number of rounds that can be carried and are trying to band weapons/magazines that are in common use for self-defense as well as other activities such as target shooting or hunting. You must adhere to the SCOTUS ruling of what is history and tradition by understanding what the founders meant by the 2A at the time that the constitution was enacted in 1791. It is against the Bruen decision to use the weighing difference of Chevron in these cases!


I for one will be closely watching to see the Representatives and Senators that vote for these bills and will not be voting for any of them in any future election in NM.

The people coming up with this garbage have no clues on law that are in place
