Pledge to Support Campus Carry in Florida

Today, too many college campuses are not safe. They are "Gun-Free-Zones" where murderers, rapists, terrorists, and robbers commit crimes without fear of their victims defending themselves with a firearm.

According to one report, an estimated 1 in 5 five female college students reported that they have been sexually assaulted during their college years. It has been called an epidemic of sexual assault on our nation's college campuses.

In Florida, the Legislature is considering passage of a bill that would restore the right of persons 21 years of age and older, who have a state issued license to carry concealed firearms, to do so on college campuses.

Anti-gun and anti-self defense groups are fighting to deny these law-abiding adults from being able to exercise their fundamental right to self-defense.

Don't let Florida' s college and university administrators and their faculty unions, along with gun control groups like former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's "Everytown for Gun Safety" and the League of Women Voters, deny the constitutional freedoms of law-abiding Floridians.

Sign our petition to let Florida’s state legislators know that you support Campus Carry. Tell them you support Campus Carry -- not Gun Fee Zones.

We should also be supporting policy changes to allow pepper spray on college campuses.

Students should have the right to defend them selves anywhere. students living on campus have no where to keep weapon. Those living off campus must travel to and from unarmed.

Hello,

I went to FSU in the late 80s and there was crime against students then too. I learned to shoot at seven years old. It was very uncomfortable going to bed at night knowing I couldn’t have a gun in my dorm room. Campus police were great about walking us home at night if needed and responding to calls but, calls but, there is still the response time of both the victim and witnesses on top of the police response time. I believe in being proactive in my protection. At the time I kept a knife by the bed and a baseball bat under it. But, I never felt truly protected living on campus. I would have felt better and safer if I had the right tools for protection. If possible, prevent the crime before it happens. If not, protect yourself and your roommate at the time of a physical attack.

When we establish mental illness free zones then we may consider gun free zones. If both respected and treated properly will promote a healthy and safe community.
